Technical Inspection (Weights & Measures)

Technical Inspection (Weights & Measures) Sub-Unit roles are to inspect, verify and approve the weights and measures instruments used for trade purposes and to enforce and promote consumer protection via Weights & Measures act 1983, Chapter 151 and its regulation by ensuring traceability of weights and measures standard to the SI unit.

The scope of verification services carried out is as follows:

Services carried out by Weight and Measures (W&M)

  • New registration of weight or measures equipment.
  • Verification and Re-verification at W&M branches with respect to four districts.
  • Verification and Re-verification at Customer Premises with respect to Heavy Duty equipment.
  • Verification and Re-verification on Special Request.
  • Verification and Re-verification for Government Equipment.
  • Approval Authorisation for Agent Suppliers to supply and sell Weight & Measures Equipment.

Application of new registration of weight or measures equipment

  1. Submission of Business Registration 16/17 and IC copy of the owner of weighing equipment to verify ownership.
  2. Submission of new registration of weighing equipment.
  3. The weighing equipment will be inspected and verified, and when authorized to use, is stamped with a verification sealer that will be affixed onto the equipment.

Application to become an authorized agent, with form attached:

  • Submission of Company's profile
  • Submission of Company's stakeholders
  • Directors biography (with their share ratio)
  • Company's main customer
  • Weight and measures devices brand and capacity
  • Item specifications (with picture and estimated price)

TPOR for application processes

  • Inspection and verification for Light Duty equipment: One (1) working day (On-the-spot)
  • Approval Letter for Heavy Duty equipment: One (1) week (Working days) from the date payment made
  • Approval Letter for Transfer of Ownership: One (1) week (Working days) from the date requested.
  • Approval Letter for Authorised Suppliers: Two (2) weeks (Working days) from the date of submitted paper-work.
  • Termination Letter for W&M Equipment: One (1) week (Working days) from the date request.
