The Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI) hosted a Town Hall session with its staff, the Department of Electrical Services (DES) and associated statutory bodies including Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) and the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) held a Town Hall session with officers and staff on Saturday, 5th January 2019 at the Main Theatre Hall, Prime Minister's Office Building. The Town Hall session was presided by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry.
The goal of the Town Hall Session was to discuss Ministry's plans and initiatives under its key portfolios of energy, manpower, and industry. This set the tone and scene for activities to be undertaken by the Ministry over the coming year, to enhance alignment and tighter collaboration between staff at all levels towards the Ministry's short, medium and long-term goals.
Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry; Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy); Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zolkiflee bin Haji Abdul Karim, Permanent Secretary (Manpower); Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Mohd. Hasnan bin Pengiran Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Industry); Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Industry); Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy & Power), officers and staff of MEMI, DES, DARe and SHENA.
In his opening remarks, Yang Berhormat Dato thanked the officers and staff of MEMI, DES, DARe and SHENA for their contribution in the past year and expressed hope that the Ministry and associated entities will continue to work together and support each other in implementing the Ministry's plans. Yang Berhormat Dato also elaborated on the key milestones and challenges in 2018, which include the establishment of several regulatory bodies including SHENA, the progress of key downstream industry projects, and the issuance of the Bruneianisation Directive within the oil and gas sector. In addition, Yang Berhormat Dato emphasised on the importance of reviewing the plans and deliverables set out by the Ministry in order to ensure that the Ministry is contributing to the nation's growth and development.
Yang Mulia Dato Deputy Minister and the Permanent Secretaries later presented on the Ministry's plans, including to the Ministry's Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Core Roles. The new organization structure and human resource strategy were also shared during the session. The session also featured a question and answer session.
The session was attended by more than 200 personnel from MEMI, DES, DARe and SHENA. This marked the Ministry's first Town Hall session since its formation as the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry on 30 July 2018.
